The 5 Minute Putting Drill That Is Perfect For Busy Golfers
The majority of amateurs do not complete an effective and efficient putting practice before a round of golf and this can be a major cause of dropping shots on the opening holes of a round. This failure to practice properly results in the following types of errors:
Their putts do not make it halfway to the hole Their putts take a line or path which they weren’t expecting it to take Their putts overshoots the hole by a large margin
The benefit of taking 5 minutes to practice some putting can really provide benefits, especially the first few holes were many a bogie are made. The following putting drills make effective use of your practice time before a round and should help establish in your mindset the correct alignment when putting and a good feel for the green’s speed.
Alignment
Line up for a long put using whatever preferred technique you regularly use. Place a short iron against the toes of your shoes then step away from the club and look down its line. Is it the line you had intended in your setup? This line is going to show the starting trajectory of your putts so you want to have this as accurate as possible. If the line is off then maybe your technique for lining up shots is a little off. Try picking a point closer to the ball instead of closer to the hole to start lining up your shot.
Distances
The importance of performing a distance drill is that it establishes in your mind how the speed of the greens is over 3 distances. You can practice several distances if time allows but it’s usually simpler to focus on the feeling of putting a long, medium and short putting distance.
Beginning with a long putt, you want to try to make 10 of these long putts and you should focus on making the distance the ball travels accurate (to establish long green speed).
Next choose a medium length putt around the 10 foot distance and preferably a distance which you experience often. Again, take up to 10 practice putts and try to get to within a meter of the hole. Being accurate is important with this drill so you wish to have some putts going in.
And lastly, perform some short putts close to the hole so you get a high number of putts going. This is good for your confidence and will be good practice for the large amount of one metre putts that happen in any round of golf.
These simple drills can benefit all players and save you shots in the early part of the round so always try to put in some practice before a round to establish a confidence in your putting accuracy and distance control.

Improve Putting With These 3 Tips

To improve putting, I have 3 tips for you to use on the practice green and you should see the same results that I did. Improve putting means lower scores on your score card.
I have struggled with my putting most of my golfing career and to be perfectly honest I was a very poor putter. I used the traditional grip when putting. I am right handed so my left hand was on the top and my right hand was on the bottom.
Using the traditional grip, my biggest problem was keeping the club head square to the target line throughout the putting stroke. I would usually push of pull my putts which means I missed allot of putts.
A few years ago I decided to change my grip on the putter and I put my left hand on the bottom and my right hand on the top.
Changing my grip gave me more control of my putting stroke by taking my right hand out of the putt. I now controlled the putting stroke with my left hand and I now used my right hand to keep the putter head square to the target line. This helped me to be more consistent with my putting and rolling the ball where I wanted it to go.
The second thing I changed to imporve putting has had the most dramitic results for me and is responible for me to start lowering my scores on the golf course.
I was preparing to play in the final qualifying round of the ESPN 2 Man Best Ball Tournament that was going to be held in Las Vegas. I was playing a practice round with my partner the day before the finals. We were playing at Bears Best which is where the qualifying finals were to be held and that course just happens to be one of my favorite golf courses.
We were paired up with another twosome which decided to use one of the course’s caddies for their round. About half way through the round I was complaining about my poor putting like I normally did when the caddie told me that I was picking my head up to quickly while I was putting. He told me to keep my head down a couple of extra seconds after I stroked the ball and not to be in a hurry to pick it up to see where the ball was going.
That caddie sure knew what he was talking about. Keeping my head down a few extra seconds after stroking the ball helped me to keep my ball on line and if I had lined the put up correctly the ball was starting to roll in the cup.
The next day while playing in the qualifying finals I follow that caddie’s advice and I kept my head down for a few extra seconds while putting. By following hes advice I one putted thirteen greens and ended up shooting the best round of my life. My partner and I went on to play in the ESPN Tournament Finals. By the way, I shot a 73 that day. Not bad for a 10 handicapper.
The third and final tip to improve putting is to relax your hands when gripping the club. The fact is, you should have a relaxed grip on all your shots when playing golf. Relaxing your hands when gripping the club will help to improve all your shots and not just your putting.
Using these 3 tips has helped me to become a much better player on the greens than I use to be. Give them an honest try on the practice green and see if they improve your putting the way they did mine. Improve putting is the easiest way I know to help lower your scores and your handicap.

How to golf for beginners and having your own set-up routine is important. Whether your a beginner or intermediate player you have to have your own unique set-up routine that you use to prepare yourself for every shot.
Everyone has their own perspective and outlook about golf. It is how you approach the game that will determine how good a golfer you will become. You must be willing to accept failure in the game of golf becaue it will come. It is the greatest game there is and if your willing to put in some practice and develop your own routine while your playing you can become very good at this game.
I am going to give you my step by step set-up routine and this should help you as well. For myself, golf is a very relaxing game. it doesn't make a difference if I shoot a great score or a bad score, I just enjoy playing. I enjoy the beutiful scenery, the smell of the fresh cut grass, but the one thing that attracts me to golf the most is the fact that this is a game that can never be mastered. You always have room to improve.
I always go to the golf coarse early enough so I have time to warm up on the practice tee. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting loose and warmed up before you start play. This is when your mental preparations will begin. I
have been playing this game so long that I have developed my own personal set-up routine for addressing the ball through the completion of the swing. You should develop your own personal routine as well.
While on the practice tee I usually place an iron on the ground help align me with my target. This helps me when I set my feet to make sure they are placed properly. I will position myself behind the ball and visualise the shot in my head before it happens. When I am setting up for any shot, I will begin with my feet together so I can check my distance from the ball. Once that is complete, I make sure that when I place my club behind the ball the club face is square to the ball and aligned to my target.
I then set my left hand first making sure it is in the proper position. If my left hand is in good position than my right hand fits right into place. I then spread my feet apart starting with my left foot first. I always start with my left foot because my left foot determines where the ball is placed in my stance. This will also make it easy for me to make any adjustments of the ball to my stance.
Once my feet are set in place I will open my left foot slightly towards the target. This will allow me to clear my hips easier since my flexibility has tightened up over the years. It is not as easy to turn my body through the swing as it use to be.
My set-up is now complete and I am ready to deliver my swing. If everything is correct the ball will go exactly where I aimed it.
Golf is all about repetition and repeating the same swing over and over. If you develop your own set-up routine this will take you one step closer to being a more consistent golfer.

What I Did to Fix my Golf Swing

Golfing Tips for Beginners
Golf has become much more popular in recent years maybe due in some part to the celebrity of Tiger Woods. Regardless of why golf is a great sport to get started with and is great for exercise. Golf courses are made up of holes. Each hole is given a rating of a par. Par is the standard number of shots you should expect to make to get the ball in the hole on the green. Par is determined by calculating the distance and difficulty of each hole. Golf courses are made up of either 9 or 18 holes ranging in pars from 3 to 6. If you are shooting on a par 4 hole on your local course and get your ball in the hole in 4 strokes then you have “made par”.
There are some odd phrases used in golf. Eagle,Birdie,Par,Bogie these are references to how many strokes you have made on a given hole. An Eagle is when you hole your ball 2 strokes under par. So if you’re on a Par 5 hole and you get your ball in the hole in 3 strokes that is an “Eagle”. A Birdie is 1 under Par. A Bogie is 1 over par.
Strategically placed areas to increase the difficulty of play on a hole are called “Hazards”. Hazards can be anything from trees to bodies of water but are usually created with sand traps near the greens. Some beginners seek out courses with little to no hazards but hazards are a regular part of golf and really new golfers should not avoid them as they should learn to deal with hazards in the regular course of play from the beginning.
Keeping your Score
Each golfer keeps track of their own score on a score card provided usually by the golf course. After each hole the golfer marks the number of strokes it took to finish the hole. At the end of your game you total all of your holes and that is the total score for that round. The goal is to have the lowest score possible for you.
Beginning Golfer Tips
If you are just beginning in your golf game take some lessons to learn proper grip, stance and swing techniques. This will eliminate a lot of frustration when you first start to play the game. A lot of beginning golfers make the mistake of just going out and playing on a local course without first getting instruction on the proper techniques of the game. This starts you out at a disadvantage and also allows you to develop bad habits in your swing and grip.
